D and A two-level opening bids

A complete scheme for multi twos. Devised, I believe, by Derek Tyms and Gerard ( Ado ) Hardy.

2 = 21+ with 's or
    18-20 balanced or
    24+ balanced or
    weak with 6 's or 6 's

responses: 2 = relay

after 2 - 2, then 2 = weak with 6 's
  2 = weak with 6 's
  2NT = 18-20 balanced
  3 = 21+ with 's
  3NT = 24+ balanced

2 = 21+ with 's or
    21+ any 4441 distribution or
    weak with 5 's and another suit

responses: 2 = less than opening values, assumes partner is weak.
  2 = looking for the 2 nd suit, 0 or 1 , less than 15 pts.
  2NT = 15+ points

after 2 - 2 , then pass = weak with 5 's and another suit
  2NT = 4441*
  3 = 21+ with 's (usually 6 card suit)

after 2 - 2, then pass = weak with 5 's and 4/5 's.
  2NT = 4441*
  3 = weak with 5 's and 4/5 's.
  3 = weak with 5 's and 4/5 's
  3NT = 21+ with 's (usually 6 card suit)

  * after 2NT showing 4441, then 3 asks and opener bids the short suit (3NT= 's)

2 = 21+ with 's or
    weak with 5 's and a minor

responses: 2 = two 's; opener passes with the weak hand type.
  2NT = 15+ points
  3 = looking for the minor (pass or correct)

2 = 21+ with 's or
    weak with both minors

responses: 2NT = 15+ points
  3 = looking for the minor (pass or correct)
  3d = weak with 's

2NT = 21-23 balanced

responses: Stayman and transfers or whatever you prefer.

Defence against D and A twos

  As with the multi 2, it's usually best wait until declarer's hand type is known.
