The Smith Echo is a signalling convention used only when defending against a No Trump contract. The convention only applies when partner leads and declarer wins (in either hand or dummy) and then proceeds to run a suit. If you peter (so high-low) then that indicates that you liked partner's opening lead whereas a non-peter indicates discouragement. |
