Note that I adjusted the score for 10 vs 9 in favor of pair 10 (they stopped in 3NT+4 after a question by the opposition got an "incorrect" response). I will write up this deal together with an article on both ethics and unnecessary questions during the auction in the next news-sheet. Bob Short was overely ethical and in my opinion they would easily have reached slam if the opponents had not asked a completely unnecessary question during the auction. The questioner in Pair 9 should consider himself lucky that I did not award 7NT=, which I may well do the next time this sort of thing happens. DO NOT ASK TOTALLY UNNECESSARY QUESTIONS DURING THE AUCTION. We have bidding cards, and the correct procedure is to wait until the end of the auction and then ask the question with the bidding card still on the table. You should only ask during the auction if the answer may affect your bid.
